Cochrane-institutet, en av världens största forskningsinstanser, skriver så här i sin analys Benefits and harms of planned hospital birth compared with planned home birth for low-risk pregnant women – Olsen O, Clausen JA (2012):

Increasingly better observational studies suggest that planned hospital birth is not any safer than planned home birth assisted by an experienced midwife with collaborative medical back up, but may lead to more interventions and more complications.

WHO (Världshälsoorganisationen) skriver i Place of Birth in Europe – Jane Sandall, PhD, Professor, Social Science and Women’s Health, King’s College London, London, United Kingdom (2015):

(…) for low risk nulliparous and multiparous women, planning to give birth in a midwifery led unit (freestanding or alongside) is particularly suitable for them because the rate of interventions is lower and the outcome for the baby is no different compared with an obstetric unit.

(2020) Maternal outcomes and birth interventions among women who begin labour intending to give birth at home compared to women of low obstetrical risk who intend to give birth in hospital: A systematic review and meta-analyses. EClinicalMedicine NY
